Understand Jesus' death | Is Good Friday still good?
What is Good Friday, and why do those who claim to honor Christ observe it?
Matthew 27:35 NLT
[35] After they had nailed him to the cross, the soldiers gambled for his clothes by throwing dice.
For forty years, I was one of those people. Now, I see that I was under the strong hypnosis of a pretentious movement called Christianity. Despite being confident for years in my "good status" as a human, I finally understood how defiled and unrighteous I truly was. I realized this so-called holy day, which occurs once a year, had nothing to do with the other 364 days of my life.
Did I live as though I were carrying my cross, just as Jesus did? Did I surrender my will to the Father when it was hard? Did I truly deny myself? The honest answer is no. And if you are honest with yourself, your answer would be no, too. For many, Good Friday is simply another day to justify a false life.
Year in and year out, the preaching is the same: "He died and rose on the third day." We hear the same message because we remain babies in Christ who still need milk. He is seated at the right hand of the Father because He finished His earthly assignment and received His glorified body. Can the same be said of you?
To me, the cross now represents something new:
- If Jesus died for me, why do I still fail to die to my sinful nature?
- If He remained silent while being falsely accused and abused, why am I so vocal when the same happens to me?
- If He gave everything for the Father, why do I give everything for my family and my own dreams?
- If the Father’s will was His priority, why do I still insist on my own way?
- If He defeated evil, why does it still overpower me?
I want you to ask yourself these questions.
I want to focus on how His actions lead to my transformation and renewal.
-Why should I fry fish? What does that have to do with His suffering?
-Why should I listen to the same message if it doesn't lead me to repentance?
-Why should Resurrection Sunday matter if I am not ready to rise when the angel blows the trumpet?
There is so much emotion surrounding this day, but so little heart for God or His Son. There is so much wickedness within these Christian institutions that many fail to see the true Body of Christ.
Allow God to change the way you think so that you no longer conform to the ways of the world. It is about God’s will and His kingdom—not man-made days of comfort, falsely labeled "holy" when there is nothing holy about them. Holiness is to be pure, righteous, and set apart for God.
