Understand Psalms 1:3 What is it saying to you
Good day Beloveds!
Happy Monday to you, we are still on Psalms one. If you haven't read last week's teaching on verses 1 to 2 please first start there so you can understand the below teaching as it's a continuation of Psalms 1. Read
Remember I said there are only two types of people according to God. The tree and the chaff. Sadly we can't just pick the one that suits us, it's all determined by the ways we live. Is it aligned with the ways of a tree or a chaff?
People who are trees live according to verses 1 and 2. They don't take advice from the wicked, stand with the sinners or join the mockers. They are satisfied with living a righteous life and always following the word of God. The rewards and blessings you receive from God for living this way are what would show if one is a tree or a chaff.
What are God's promises or blessings for those who live according to verses 1 and 2?
Psalms 1:3 NLT
[3] They are like trees planted along the riverbank, bearing fruit each season. Their leaves never wither, and they prosper in all they do.
Verse 3 tells us that these people are like trees but not any tree. A tree planted by the riverbank means it always has access to water. It doesn't have to rely on a person watering it or the day it rains. The location of the tree is very important to note. It has access to an abundance of water from the river, its roots are embedded in the moist and fertile soil full of nutrition.
This reminds me of what Jesus said in John 4:13-14:
[13] Jesus replied, “Anyone who drinks this water will soon become thirsty again. [14] But those who drink the water I give will never be thirsty again. It becomes a fresh, bubbling spring within them, giving them eternal life.”
For us to access this water we need to live according to Psalms 1:1-2. When we are planted by the river bank we would bear fruit in every season it wouldn't be dependent on whether it rained enough. Think of those seasons of drought, just because you have an apple tree it doesn't mean you will harvest apples. However, having this overflow of water also known as the Holy Spirit will make sure you always bear fruit. The Holy Spirit is the one who gives us the strength to meditate on the commands and obey them.
When you are this tree your leaves will never wither. Isn't that just a supernatural thing to hear? Your leaves would always be green and full of life, leading you to bear fruit in every season. You will prosper in every season, this doesn't say when you get promoted in your career, get an inheritance or know people in high places.
We often mistake prosperity for money. It can be part of it but money isn't prosperity.
Merriam-Webster's definition of "prosper"
: to succeed in an enterprise or activity
: to become strong and flourishing
Merriam-Webster's definition of "prosperity "
:the condition of being successful or thriving
God's blessings can make us prosper in having positive outcomes in relationships, careers, self-image, as parents, in our purpose, God's call on our life and most importantly our relationship with God. Simply put we can succeed in all life-related things.
Reflection/ Introspection:
Do you often think that you need to get some qualifications and work hard to be promoted so you can buy a mansion, or German car or take your kids to private school? As exciting as that sounds that is not a success. Yes, It's things that you have achieved and most of us have a huge debt to show for it. With God, these things won't matter much, when he added them you don't see them as success. You see your close relationship with God, how he is using you to advance his kingdom and show that he is real. This is something many people fail to achieve
Confession:
Heavenly Father, I am sorry for believing more in myself and for thinking there is a shortcut to success. I have learned in this scripture that I have to live in godliness to receive what is godly. I can only bear fruit if meditate on your word amd obey it.
Prayer:
Father thank you for sharing the secrets of your kingdom with me. Thank you for wanting me to be a tree with leaves that don't wither. Please change and transform me into a new creation. Let me live in your righteousness through the power of the Holy Spirit. In Jesus' name I ask. Amen
When we live a righteous life, obedient to God's word, God will bless us and all areas of our lives according to His will. This ties in with "seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness and all will be added by the Lord". By seeking the kingdom of good we seek spiritual things above physical things, his righteousness is us doing what is right according to God. All that will be added is us bearing fruit in every season. Don't obsess about the fruit leave that to God.
Just know that your role is to stop taking wicked advice, standing with sinners and joining the mockers. Delight in the Law of God/Commandments and meditate on them day and night and the rest will follow.
I wantes to also discuss verse 4 but it verse 3 is a mouth full. Look out for the next blog were we focus on the chaff.(verse 4)
