Understand John 8:12
Good day, Beloveds
I hope that you feel blessed on this excellent morning. As we continue to transform into Jesus' character with the help of the Holy Spirit, we need to remain faithful and endure in all circumstances.
Today, we look at John 8:12. Here, Jesus is talking to the people and not his disciples. When Jesus speaks to his disciples, he shares more details, and when it's the crowd that follows him, he just says enough but doesn't share too much.
Scripture
Jesus says, "I am the light for the world." He could have plainly said that he is the Messiah. Remember God's plan was that the people wouldn't recognise the Messiah. He is the light to the world, meaningful he didn't come for certain people but for all people.
"Follow me", Jesus is inviting the people to be his disciples. To follow him is to obey his commands, do the works that he did and more, and become like him in character (the fruit of the spirit).
"And you won't be walking in the dark, you will have the light that gives life." Jesus is teaching us that there are two options. To be in the dark or in the light. If we follow Jesus, we will be in the light. If we don't, then we remain in the dark.
What is to follow the light?
• Sin would no longer overrule us.
• The Holy Spirit would be our helper.
• We would experience God's promises/blessings in Deuteronomy 28.
• We would spend life in eternity in God's kingdom.
• We would experience the kingdom of heaven while on earth.
• We would have the power that Jesus had to perform miracles, signs, and wonders, heal, cast out demons, and make disciples.
What is to be in the dark?
• Sin would rule us, and we would be in a cycle of sin.
• We would experience curses in Deuteronomy 28.
• We would spend eternity in the lake of fire meant for Satan and his angels.
• We wouldn't experience the kingdom of God on earth because it would be hidden to us.
• Satan would have power over us. He would have permission to kill, steal, and destroy whatever in our lives.
Remember, this is an invitation. Are you choosing to follow Jesus now so he can light up your life? Or will you remain in the darkness that belongs to Satan? It's all up to you. Both these paths end in eternity. One has an abundance of everything good, and the other has an abundance of everything bad.
Make a choice to stop sinning, the Holy Spirit will do the rest. But you need to study the Bible so you can gain more knowledge of what sin is
